Refractory Coatings

Water and alcohol based zircon, graphite, alumino-silicate and magnesite coatings, formulated for a clean mould-metal interface and reliable shake-out.

Refractory Coating Manufacturer

Coatings formulated for the alloy and the carrier you need

BR Chemicals manufactures refractory coatings for sand moulds and cores used in ferrous and non-ferrous casting. We produce zircon, zircon-graphite, graphite and alumino-silicate coatings in a water carrier, and zircon, graphite, alumino-silicate and magnesite coatings in an alcohol carrier — giving foundries a choice based on drying method, turnaround time and the alloy being poured.

Every batch is checked for density, viscosity and moisture before dispatch, and each coating is formulated to work across dip, brush and spray application methods depending on your mould size and production setup.

Water-Based Coatings

Lower odour, stable storage, oven or ambient dried

Water-based coatings are the standard choice for foundries that want safer handling and good storage stability. They're typically applied by dipping or spraying and dried before the mould is closed.

ZIRCON
Water-Based

Zircon Based Coating

Zircon based coating uses zirconium silicate as its refractory filler, chosen for its high thermal conductivity and resistance to metal penetration. It's commonly applied on moulds and cores for steel and iron castings where a smooth, defect-free surface finish is the priority. Our water-based zircon coating is formulated with high solid content for consistent build-up in a single coat application.

ZR-GRAPHITE
Water-Based

Zircon-Graphite Coating

Zircon-graphite coating combines zirconium silicate with graphite for foundries that want the surface finish benefits of zircon along with graphite's lubricity and improved peel-off. It suits SG iron and grey iron castings where both surface quality and easy shake-out matter.

GRAPHITE
Water-Based

Graphite Based Coating

Graphite based coating is valued for its excellent suspension stability and the way it promotes even cooling across the casting surface, along with clean peel-off after shake-out. It's a common choice for grey iron and SG iron foundries running high-volume production.

ALUMINO-SI
Water-Based

Alumino-Silicate Coating

Alumino-silicate coating, enriched with iron oxide, offers high thermal resistance and low reactivity with metal oxides, making it suitable for steel castings where refractoriness at higher pouring temperatures is critical.

Alcohol-Based Coatings

Fast, uniform drying for tighter turnaround

Alcohol-based coatings are formulated for foundries that need fast, uniform drying — often by direct ignition — without the extended oven-drying time water-based coatings require.

ZIRCON
Alcohol-Based

Zircon Based Coating

Spirit-based zircon coating for fast, uniform drying — protects moulds and cores while improving casting surface quality, and suits foundries that need to move from coating to pouring quickly.

GRAPHITE
Alcohol-Based

Graphite Based Coating

Alcohol-carried graphite coating developed for both ferrous and non-ferrous castings needing quick turnaround, combining graphite's cooling and peel-off benefits with fast ignition drying.

ALUMINO-SI
Alcohol-Based

Alumino-Silicate Coating

Red-brown, spirit-based coating built from selected alumino-silicates for reliable release and finish, suited to foundries working on tight moulding-to-pour schedules.

MAGNESITE
Alcohol-Based

Magnesite Based Coating

High-purity magnesite coating in an alcohol carrier, developed for demanding steel and manganese steel foundries that need high refractoriness at elevated pouring temperatures.

Selection Guide

Choosing between water and alcohol based coatings

Water-Based

Lower Odour, Stable Storage

  • Safer to handle on the shop floor
  • Good storage stability over time
  • Needs oven or ambient drying time
  • Common for standard production schedules
Alcohol-Based

Fast, Uniform Drying

  • Dries quickly, often by direct ignition
  • Suits tight moulding-to-pour turnaround
  • Requires proper ventilation and fire safety
  • Preferred where oven capacity is limited

FAQs

Common questions about our coatings

What's the difference between water-based and alcohol-based refractory coatings?
Water-based coatings offer lower odour and safer handling but need oven or ambient drying time. Alcohol-based coatings dry fast, often by direct ignition, which suits foundries with tighter turnaround between moulding and pouring but need proper ventilation and fire safety precautions.
Which coating is best for SG iron castings?
Zircon-graphite or graphite based coatings are commonly used for SG iron and grey iron castings, chosen for surface finish and easy shake-out after casting.
Can your coatings be applied by spray as well as dip?
Yes. Our coatings are formulated to work across dip, brush and spray application methods depending on the mould size and production setup.
Do you supply coatings in bulk quantities?
We manufacture at a capacity of 2,500 MT of refractory coating per year and supply in bulk to foundries across India. Contact us with your requirement for availability and lead time.
