Alcohol Based Graphite Coatings

Spirit-based, high-conductivity refractory graphite coatings engineered for instant ignition drying, superior surface lubricity, and clean peel-off in Grey Cast Iron (CI), Ductile / SG Iron, and non-ferrous foundry operations.

Product Overview

Spirit-Based High-Lubricity Coating for Iron & Non-Ferrous Castings

Alcohol-based (Spirit-based) Graphite coatings are specially developed refractory washes formulated using high-purity crystalline flake graphite suspended in an industrial alcohol / spirit carrier. Formulated for fast-cycling foundries producing Grey Iron, Spheroidal Graphite (SG / Ductile) Iron, and non-ferrous alloys, these coatings offer high thermal conductivity and rapid film consolidation upon flame ignition.

The natural laminar structure of graphite creates an effective non-wetting carbonaceous shield that liquid iron cannot wet or penetrate. During pouring, the coating provides exceptional heat dissipation, preventing local hot spots, sand burn-on, and thermal expansion defects. Upon solidification, the low surface energy of the carbon layer ensures immediate, clean separation between casting and mould media, drastically lowering shot-blasting, grinding, and fettling expenses.

At BR Chemicals, our spirit graphite coatings are produced with advanced suspension stabilizers to prevent hard cake settling, ensuring dependable suspension recovery, zero foaming, and consistent coating thickness across dipping, brushing, and spraying applications.

Why This Grade

Engineered for Rapid Turnaround & Defect-Free Iron Castings

A proven spirit graphite formulation trusted across Indian iron and non-ferrous foundries to lower energy overheads and eliminate sand burn-on.

01

Rapid Ignition Drying

Dries instantly upon flame lighting with zero oven heating, saving massive fuel and electrical energy on the foundry floor.

02

Superior Thermal Conductivity

High thermal dissipation rate promotes uniform cooling and suppresses thermal cracking and veining on complex internal cores.

03

Anti-Stick Carbon Shield

Forms a non-wetting carbon barrier that molten iron and non-ferrous metals cannot penetrate, eliminating metal penetration and burn-on.

04

Effortless Shakeout

Graphite lubricity facilitates effortless sand release at knockout, leaving clean cast surfaces and reducing fettling labor.

Where It Performs

Foundry Applications

  • ✓ Grey Cast Iron (CI) castings, machine tool beds, and engine blocks
  • ✓ Ductile / SG (Spheroidal Graphite) iron moulds and internal core assemblies
  • ✓ Non-ferrous castings including copper, bronze, and brass foundry components
  • ✓ Cold Box (PUCB), Furan No-Bake, and Phenolic resin bonded sand cores
  • ✓ Sodium Silicate / CO2 sand systems where oven baking is unavailable
  • ✓ Application by brushing, swabbing, dipping, flow-coating, or air spraying
