Alcohol Based Zircon Coatings

Spirit-based, high-performance refractory zircon coatings engineered for rapid ignition drying, extreme thermal shock protection, and total resistance to metal penetration in steel, alloy steel, and ductile iron casting foundries.

Product Overview

Spirit-Based High-Refractory Protection with Fast Drying

Alcohol-based (Spirit-based) Zircon coatings are premium refractory washes formulated from high-grade Zircon Flour (ZrSiO4) utilizing isopropyl alcohol or specialized industrial spirit as the carrier liquid. Formulated specifically for foundries requiring immediate mould turnaround without reliance on baking ovens, these coatings are ignited (torched) directly after application, flashing off the solvent within moments to form a dense, crack-resistant refractory shield.

With an ultra-high refractoriness exceeding 2000°C and chemically inert properties, our alcohol-based zircon coating delivers an impenetrable barrier against molten steel and heavy iron attack. It eliminates burn-on, scabbing, finning, and chemical mould-metal reactions across all sand binder backgrounds, including Furan No-Bake, Phenolic Urethane Cold Box, Ester-Alkaline Phenolic, and Silicate-CO2 systems.

At BR Chemicals, each batch is formulated with high-yield thixotropic suspension agents to ensure zero hard settling, exceptional rheology, minimal core seepage, and a mirror-like casting surface finish.

Why This Grade

Engineered for Steel & Heavy Iron Casting Floor Speeds

A proven spirit wash chosen across India to eliminate core oven bottlenecks and reduce fettling cycle times.

01

Rapid Ignition Drying

Dries immediately upon torch ignition with zero oven heating, saving substantial shop floor electrical and fuel energy costs.

02

Extreme Refractoriness

Zirconium silicate withstands extreme pouring temperatures of liquid alloy steels and ductile irons without softening or erosion.

03

Dense Barrier Formation

High solids packing prevents liquid metal ferrostatic pressure from penetrating sand pores, ensuring clean strip and peel.

04

Binder Versatility

Functions seamlessly on Furan, Cold Box, Phenolic, Alkyd, and Sodium Silicate CO2 sand moulds without softening sand bonds.

Where It Performs

Foundry Applications

  • ✓ Plain carbon steel, low-alloy, and manganese steel castings poured at high temperatures
  • ✓ Heavy-section Grey Cast Iron (CI) and Spheroidal Graphite (SG / Ductile) iron moulds
  • ✓ Heavy industrial valve bodies, earthmover parts, mining equipment, and turbine casings
  • ✓ Large sand moulds and cores where baking ovens are inaccessible or impractical
  • ✓ Fast-turnaround jobbing foundries requiring quick ignite-and-pour cycles
  • ✓ Flexible application by brushing, swabbing, dipping, flow-coating, or air-assisted spraying
