Furan Acid Cured Resin (No-Bake System)

A premium furfuryl alcohol-based self-setting binder system for grey iron, SG (ductile) iron, and steel foundries. Delivers excellent thermal collapsibility, superior mechanical strength, and maximum sand reclamation efficiency of up to 90%.

Product Overview

Self-Hardening Furan Resin System for High Sand Reusability

Furan Acid Cured Resin (Furan No-Bake System) is an acid-catalyzed, self-setting binder synthesized predominantly from furfuryl alcohol. Widely recognized in the foundry industry as a versatile and economical no-bake solution, this two-part system consists of a liquid furan resin and a liquid acid catalyst (typically Paratoluene Sulfonic Acid - PTSA, or sulfonic acid blends). Upon mixing, an exothermic polycondensation reaction takes place, curing the sand mould and core evenly at ambient workshop temperature without external heat.

Formulated specifically for medium to heavy casting production, our furan binders offer superior thermal collapsibility that facilitates easy shakeout and minimizes post-cast fettling costs. With ultra-low free formaldehyde (< 1%) and tailored nitrogen grades (from nil to low nitrogen levels), BR Chemicals furan binders effectively eliminate gas defects, pinholing, and nitrogen fissures in cast iron and cast steel operations, while supporting exceptional mechanical sand reclamation rates of up to 90%.

Why This Grade

Engineered for Mold Strength & Sand Economy

A proven furan no-bake resin system trusted across Indian foundries for dimensional accuracy and cost-efficient sand reuse.

01

90% Sand Reusability

High thermal breakdown characteristics enable up to 90% reclaimed sand utilization, drastically cutting virgin sand procurement and disposal costs.

02

Adjustable Strip Time

Curing speed is readily adjusted from 10 minutes to over an hour simply by tuning the catalyst grade and dosage according to ambient climate.

03

Ultra-Low Gas Defects

High purity furfuryl alcohol formulation reduces gas evolution upon pouring, avoiding blowholes, pinholes, and metal penetration.

04

Effortless Shakeout

Excellent hot collapsibility allows sand to crumble freely from internal cavities and narrow channels, reducing fettling man-hours.

Technical Snapshot

The Two-Component Binder System

Part I : Resin

Furfuryl Alcohol Resin

A low-viscosity, amber-yellow polycondensation resin that provides instantaneous sand wetting, superior flowability, and dependable final cured strength.

Part II : Catalyst

Acid Catalyst (Hardener)

Specialized organic sulfonic acid solutions (PTSA / BSA blends) tailored in fast, medium, and slow grades to balance bench life with strip time.

Aggregate

Reclaimed & Virgin Sand

Optimized specifically for high-efficiency sand reclamation plants, retaining low loss on ignition (LOI) and minimal residual acid buildup over multiple cycles.

Processing & Handling Guidelines

Sand Preparation & Mixing

Ensure sand is completely dry, clean, and free of alkaline contaminants. If switching from an alkaline phenolic system, thoroughly clean and purge the mixer, trough, and screw blades. First blend the acid catalyst with the sand thoroughly, then add the furan resin to ensure uniform distribution and avoid localized premature curing.

Handling & Safety Precaution

CRITICAL WARNING: Direct contact or mixing between raw Resin and concentrated Acid Catalyst without sand can trigger an instantaneous, violent exothermic reaction. Never pre-mix resin and catalyst directly. Store them separated in well-ventilated areas. Operators should use nitrile gloves, safety goggles, and barrier skin creams during handling.
