Graphite Water Based Coating
Engineered for grey cast iron (CI), spheroidal graphite (SG) ductile iron, and non-ferrous casting — formulated with high-purity crystalline carbon and micro-flake graphite for superior cooling, anti-burn-on protection, smooth surface finish, and complete peel-off during shakeout.
High-carbon aqueous wash for smooth, defect-free iron castings
Water-Based Graphite Coatings are premium refractory mould and core washes combining high-purity micro-flake graphite, natural crystalline carbon, and advanced rheology suspension agents in an aqueous carrier. Specifically engineered for cast iron foundries, graphite possesses high thermal conductivity and superior non-wetting properties against liquid iron. Upon contact with molten metal, it creates a protective carbonaceous barrier and smooth reducing atmosphere that prevents chemical mould-metal reactions, sand burn-on, and metal penetration.
At BR Chemicals, our graphite water-based coatings are produced in both concentrated pasty forms and eco-friendly dry powder formulations. Featuring advanced thixotropic flow modifiers, they ensure zero pigment settling, exceptional brushability without drag marks, and uniform film thickness when applied by dipping, spraying, or flood coating. For difficult-to-wet core surfaces (caused by release agents or high core density), our technical experts provide optimized wetting guidelines ensuring total adhesion and fast peel-off from casting surfaces.
Engineered for faster cooling, easy peeling & minimal fettling
A proven water-based refractory coating formulated for iron foundries demanding low rework and spotless casting appearance.
Rapid Heat Dissipation
High thermal conductivity of flake graphite accelerates surface chilling and directional solidification, optimizing casting structure.
Easy Casting Peel-Off
Non-wetting carbon layer naturally releases from solidified metal during shakeout, eliminating persistent sand adhesion and minimizing shot-blasting time.
Superior Suspension Stability
Balanced rheology prevents graphite settling or clumping in slurry tanks, maintaining homogeneous density during prolonged production dips.
Cost-Effective Protection
Economical dilution ratios and high sand coverage offer maximum square-meter protection at lower foundry operational expense.
Foundry Applications
- ✓ Grey Cast Iron (CI) sand moulds and cores across all automotive and industrial casting grades
- ✓ Spheroidal Graphite (SG / Ductile Iron) engine blocks, cylinder heads, hubs, and pump castings
- ✓ No-bake furan resin, phenolic acid-cured, and alkaline phenolic resin bonded sand systems
- ✓ High-speed automated core shooting lines (PUCB Cold Box, Shell resin RCS cores)
- ✓ Non-ferrous foundry castings (copper, bronze, and brass components)
- ✓ General engineering castings requiring smooth surface finish without sand burn-on
Standard Formulations & Grades
Standard Pasty Grade
A water-based paste coating (50-55% solids) designed for high suspension stability, smooth brushability, and strong cooling for general iron casting operations.
High-Carbon Pasty Grade
High-solids concentrated paste (70-72% solids) with enhanced carbon content, offering maximum peel-off properties and zero sand burn-on in heavy-section castings.
Dry Powder Formulation
Eco-friendly, ready-to-mix dry powder grade for long transit stability. Rapidly dissolves in water with simple stirring, forming a robust abrasion-resistant coating.
